YORK people can have their say on council services in the city at a special engagement event tomorrow.

The open "Rewiring" event takes place 9.30am-3.30pm in the council's West Offices and is the first of two exercises asking people for their ideas and concerns about everyday services, from bin collections and recycling to roads and parking, childcare services and adult services. It is part of the council's "Rewiring public services" programme of overhauling service delivery.

Ideas and views will be added to a Post-it note wall and will become part of an ongoing transformation of services. Residents and staff will also be able to use the event to find out more about the Rewiring Public Services programme overall.

A second session takes place on Wednesday, August 6 and will see council officers taking to public transport, and more events are planned for supermarkets, parks and community halls in the near future.

Councillors hope the events will help the council better understand what people want from public services.

unsure why the council is intent on holding these events during the day? I like many others work during the day monday to friday & wont be able to attend the proposed meeting.

Yes, there may be other events at supermarkets etc but I will bet that these will be held during the day too. Can someone please get some common sense and vary when they are held ie: on weekends and evenings too?

Is it the Press or the Council who are not revealing where the engagement event is being held?
If it is the Press then very bad reporting. If it is the Council then maybe they don't want anyone to attend so they don't have to take notice of what people say.

When CYC hold events during the day it's to minimise the number of people they want to attend. This has been organised deliberately like this.

As I have said before this is being run by the same people who have failed to deliver other programmes:
Rewiring public services = programme of overhauling service delivery.

The objectives of the More for York programme are to deliver:
- More for customers – through improved access to services and
swifter more responsive service delivery. Established 2010. Since then the More for York Programme Manager is now KE's AD.

The Rewiring is simply the new More for York programme, led by the same manager with several officers who have been made up to Programme Manager level. These officers are grade 12 (53K), at least one has no programme / project training.

There are several contractor who have been hired to help deliver this - one a business analyst. Although CYC also call contractors 'critical friends'. So anyone doing an FOI use both contractor and critical friend terms otherwise you will not get the full picture.

So, the point I am getting to is, if they wanted to hear what we think then it would be offered out side of core hours. My concern is it's the same people, being paid more, who have failed to deliver previously are responsible for delivering this programme.

Surely it states that the event will be held in the West offices?
