FURTHER to recent letters, I would like to add my voice to the objections about the plague of geese in York at present. It has never been worse.

Visitors who walk along the river with me can’t believe their eyes. I overhear many who discuss how disgusting it is to walk, cycle or push prams along the river, particularly between the King’s Arms steps to beyond Skeldergate Bridge.

I find myself speechless at the sight of foolish people proudly feeding these ‘poo-machines’. It is not the animals’ fault, it is their human management.

Aside of obvious issues such as the state of footwear, bicycle and pram wheel, there are surely sanitary and health issues.

Then there is just the state of our thoroughfares in general: we are always struck by the cleanliness of continental pavements, houses and general city-scapes. All the painting of PO letter boxes, last minute pothole filling, hanging of bunting & painting of bikes yellow will not resolve our stained, litter-strewn Yorkshire towns.

Should televisions stray from the Tour, or visitors venture here as a result, well they will be appalled! Let’s please at least start with the geese-problem!!
