YOUR report of David Brooks’ imminent departure from his post as general manager of the city centre Dean Court Hotel (The Press, June 30) happened to be printed on the day that the York Literature Festival AGM was held at St Peter’s School.
The article mentioned that David particularly enjoyed hosting the hotel’s literary lunches.
As festival director, I would like to add my personal thanks and appreciation to David for being a supporter and a champion of literature and the written word in our city.
It was a pleasure to work with him on the ‘Lunch with Rowan Coleman’ event in March 2014, as part of this year’s festival, which he managed with his usual panache and good humour.
He had previously run similar events with Sandi Toksvig and many others and hosted other events with local storyteller Adrian Spendlow.
I hope that David will enjoy his well-earned retirement and that he has time to catch up on some reading. I’m sorry to lose him from the life of the city, but know he has worked very hard for a long time. His replacement has a tough act to follow.
Miles Salter, Director, York Literature Festival.
