PUPILS at a York primary school will be welcoming the Tour de France to the city with their very own song.

Children at Clifton Green Primary School were taught “It’s the Tour de France”, written by Rev David Caswell, of St Philip and St James Church, and went on to have it recorded.

The 25 singers from the school’s year 5 have been learning about the sporting event through research projects and poster competitions.

Staff member John Hattam said: “ As a school we’re really keen to promote the Tour de France, not just because the route runs so near the school, but also because it’s about getting children interested in sport. The song will ensure they remember the event for years to come because they played a part in it.”
