A GROUP of men were aggressive and verbally abusive to a couple and their 10-year-old daughter on a train from York.
The incident occurred on the York to Scarborough train last Saturday when police were alerted to a group of between 30 and 35 men who were chanting unpleasantly and swearing.
A British Transport Police spokeswoman said when the men were confronted about their behaviour on the 6.45pm to 7.30pm service, the couple were verbally abused.
Officers arrested two men, aged 24 and 26, both from the Scarborough area, at Scarborough train station. They have been interviewed and released on police bail.
Police Constable Nick Storey, leading the investigation, said, “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been on the train and witnessed the group's behaviour throughout the journey. We are also currently following a number of other lines of enquiry, including looking at any CCTV opportunities from on the train.
“This was completely unacceptable behaviour that passengers and rail staff on the service should not have been subjected to, please contact us if you can help.”
Anyone with information should contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
