THE sun shone down as Tockwith staged its first-ever 'Food, Flower and Fun Day.'

Hundreds of people turned up for the family friendly day of activities, demonstrations and stalls, which took place yesterday in a field in Cattal Moor Lane where the Tockwith Show is held each summer.

The Tockwith and District Agricultural Society, which is behind both events, said there was an emphasis on home-grown and home-made produce, including cheese, preserves, juice, garden ornaments, bedding plants and crafts.

In the demonstration marquee, there were opportunities from local experts to learn about floristry, one-pan meals, cake decorating and gardening, while the children’s marquee featured a display of paintings from local schools, and there were children's activities including face painting, a treasure hunt and the chance to try milking a model cow. Tockwith Players also reprised songs from their recent production of Mamma Mia!

One of the organisers, Jane Slinger, said the focus was on providing a great day out for people of all ages, where they can learn new skills and try different activities.

“We were also keen to support small businesses and independent producers from around our area by offering them a chance to demonstrate and sell their products to visitors."
