HARROGATE is aiming to lead the way with a pioneering scheme to bring the community together to fight poverty.
Up to 2,000 people in some of the poorest parts of the world will benefit from HG1000 campaign which has been launched by the vicar of St Mark’s, Guy Donegan-Cross.
The aim is to sponsor 1,000 children and give a further 1,000 families access to safe, clean water through Christian charity Compassion.
Mr Donegan-Cross said: “A big target like this means you have to connect a lot of churches and businesses.
“This has brought the whole community together.”
In the four months since the campaign was launched, more than 400 children have already been sponsored.
