BRODY DALLE has assembled an all-star cast to help her navigate through the waters of her first solo record.
The former Distillers frontwoman links up with Garbage’s Shirley Manson, The Strokes’ Nick Valensi and Queen of the Stone Age’s Michael Shuman – among many others – in a record that took her a year to write and record. Shorn of bandmates, Diploid Love is something of a departure for Dalle.
Maybe it is age and experience, but the punk princess has gone a little more pop.
The trademark yell is still there but it is surrounded by a polished sheen – a move that will surely make her more mainstream.
Garbage, in particular, were masters of this kind of tailored sound seen most prominently in I Don’t Need Your Love. Dalle can still dial up angry, check out Meet The Foetus/Oh The Joy, but this a definite departure from anything she has done before.
