I READ that Bootham Hospital will be closed and a new hospital will be built (The Press, April 25).

Bootham Park Hospital was opened in 1777, one of only two buildings in the country still used today for its original purpose.

The building is in fantastic location in nice grounds. So why not build new wings to the hospital, where the old nurses’ home were?

Build on – don’t build new. If you have a good main building to start with, adding bits must be cheaper than having to build new and relocate somewhere else.

Also, service users who know the building as a place to feel safe may feel upset and their treatment could be harmed.
