PUB goers donated almost £200 in just an hour for cancer charities after a local choir staged a concert in the bar.

The Dormouse Pub at Clifton played host to the event, involving The Ladies First Choir and children from Skelton Primary School who warmed their vocal chords with songs from the musicals ‘Oliver’ and the ‘The Sound of Music’ alongside pop favourites.

After a member of her singing group fell ill, Nikki Nicholson, who has been a music teacher 35 years and choir mistress at Skelton Primary School, decided to use the group’s ‘Party Night’ gatherings to raise money for cancer research.

With the help of Nikki's sister, Caroline and her niece, Laura, along with 20 other songbirds, their families and friends, the concert took up the small room in the Dormouse, raising £198 of donations in an hour.

The proceeds have been split between Sarcoma UK and York Against Cancer.

Nikki said: “I would really like to thank everyone who participated, as well as the staff at the Dormouse Pub, who were very accommodating. In this day and age, everyone knows someone who is affected by cancer.”

The Ladies First Choir meet for a sing-along every Tuesday at a member’s house. To get involved, contact Nikki Nicholson on 07714 104567.
