SPEAKING as a cyclist I thought the closure of Lendal Bridge was a great idea, it’s just a pity it was handled so badly by the council.
However, now that we’re back to the normal gridlock, I was wondering whether the council would consider erecting 12-foot signs informing pedestrians that the bridge is now open to traffic.
I attempted to cycle across it this afternoon (Wednesday, April 16) and must say I’ve never seen so many gormless people strolling about in the middle of the road.
They were even meandering over the zebra crossing on the corner of Museum Street when the “red man” was on and traffic was going through the lights.
It’s quite obvious that there is not room for everyone on Lendal Bridge and as the selfish motorists have got their own way on a ban on traffic, perhaps it’s time to ban pedestrians from the bridge!
