THE planning application for council homes at Fenwick Street is on land owned by the council’s housing department (Resident fury over park flats proposal, The Press, April 22).
It is not a park nor is it part of Rowntree Park, but it is ‘unallocated’ land in planning terms meaning it is not restricted from being developed.
The site is a short walk from the public entrance to Rowntree Park and has been proposed for building much-needed new council homes, along with four other sites across the city, following a comprehensive review of land suitable for development following Government policy.
Steve Waddington, Assistant Director – Housing & Community Safety, City of York Council.
