A COUNCILLOR has welcomed news that pre-emptive action is to be taken to prevent horses damaging newly planted trees in a layby near York.
Osbaldwick councillor Mark Warters said horses had regularly been tethered by travellers in the layby on the A166 near Dunnington in then past and he was worried they might return and eat the saplings.
He pressed City of York Council for notices to be posted warning that horses could not be grazed legally there, so that York’s newly appointed horse bailiffs could take prompt action if any arrived, and he said he had now been promised that such notices would be posted.
