A MAN has been arrested in connection with the theft of a car which contained a police staff uniform and identity card.

The grey Ford Mondeo, registration YC09PZT, was taken from West Tanfield at 3pm on Monday, April 14, and also contained a black cocker spaniel called Quinn.

Police located the Quinn in the car, along with the uniform and ID card, in Ripon today. The dog has been taken to a vet for a check-up.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said a 40-year-old man was arrested in Leeds at 12.20am on Tuesday in connection with the theft.

The theft had sparked a police warning, amid fears that someone may use the uniform to impersonate a police officer.
