A VICTORIAN pub in York has closed for a six-week restoration under new management.
Ossett Brewery from West Yorkshire has teamed up with owners Punch Taverns to invest £300,000 to preserve and enhance The Fox in Holgate.
Up to ten new jobs will be created at the pub when it re-opens in mid-May.
The pub will be Ossett's second in York, following the opening of The Hop in Fossgate last October.
Managing director Jamie Lawson said: “There will be extensive work conducted throughout the pub, where we will be looking to bring the pub back to how it used to be and expose the original features. We will be concentrating on expanding our drinks range, with nine hand pulls as well as world and craft beers.”
Dave Rowland, Punch's partnership development manager, said: “We wanted to work with Ossett as we shared their vision of creating a leading ale house in York that captures the authentic pub experience.”
