CYCLISTS and HGV drivers can learn about the problems created when lorries and bicycles share the same road at an event at Monks Cross next month.
Construction company Bowmer & Kirkland is hosting a Changing Places Day when cyclists can sit in an HGV cab and see what the driver can – and can’t – see through his mirrors and windscreen.
Lorry drivers will also get a chance to talk to cyclists and learn about the challenges riders face every day on the road.
The event, at Monks Cross Drive, Huntington, between 10am and 1pm on March 1, is one of many across the country aimed at building respect between road users.
A video on YouTube shows how 11 cyclists can be waiting normally at a junction on the left side of a lorry and all be invisible to the driver in its cab.
