Thank you for publishing the article in The Press on February 11 about the 40 people who signed the petition about flooding problems in central York.

By coincidence, on the same day, an article appeared in the Guardian newspaper penned by Kersten England, the chief executive of City of York Council, titled The Fight Against Flooding In York.

Kersten has a copy of our petition as I personally handed in a copy at the council offices on February 7.

In the Guardian article she said “in 2012 only 53 people were affected and no-one was evacuated” and the “fight against flooding for a city like York will not end”.

I would like to invite Kersten to come and meet some of the 53 people who were affected (and evacuated) in 2012 so we can discuss how the “fight” can be continued.

Apart from discussing the issue of dredging I would like to show her an example of some Geodesign temporary flood barriers being used right now in Ironbridge, Shropshire, in a situation very similar to King’s Staith and South Esplanade in York which prevents flooding of properties.

There are some useful pictures if you Google “Ironbridge Flood Barriers”.
