ONCE again I open my copy of The Press (Saturday, February 8) to find City of York Council leader James Alexander bleating about other parties being personal in their comments.

Boy, if you think that is bad you should hear what the electorate thinks of you.

Ever since we have had politicians there have been insults upon insults towards each other. Nancy Aster and Winston Churchill were at each other almost daily, but both were big enough to handle it.

City of York councillors are all big enough, but obviously not mature enough, so maybe another career choice may be a good idea, before the electorate forces it on you.

I would hate to think you are crying yourselves to sleep at night.

• I HAVE two questions for Coun James Alexander. He states that “all councils are experiencing large cuts” (Letters, February 8) – but are all councils frittering money away on projects against residents’ wishes? I think not.

Secondly, is he willing to come clean and reveal how much the Northampton firm is receiving for the administration of Lendal Bridge/Coppergate fines? I am particularly interested because as a cab driver, I have just received my second notification of an offence.

Dozens of taxis which are exempt have received these notices and these errors cost money. Speaking of which, if the income from this scheme is really to be ring-fenced for our roads, start now to repair our disgusting pot-holed streets.

Transparency on these funds is now required, especially as the gross income is approaching £1.5 million.
