NORTH Yorkshire’s brewing industry has been celebrated in the Houses of Parliament at the Yorkshire Beer & Pub Association’s (YBPA) inaugural parliamentary reception.
More than 35 MPs, including Harrogate MP Andrew Jones, met with key figures from the Yorkshire brewing industry in the House of Commons.
Senior figures in the Treasury also attended to hear the brewing trade’s concerns first hand.
Parliamentarians were treated to samples of some of North Yorkshire’s most famous beers, such as Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, Theakston’s Old Peculier and Black Sheep Bitter.
Simon Theakston, chairman of the YBPA and executive director of Theakstons Brewery, spoke of the specific benefits the Yorkshire brewing sector brings to the nation’s economy.
He also suggested ways in which politicians could bolster support for the industry, including supporting the industry’s campaign to freeze beer tax in the Budget.
