BOUNDARY commissioners have changed their plans for new council ward boundaries in York after discovering an error in information supplied to them.
The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England said that in its recommendations published in November, it included the University of York campus in a three-member Hull Road ward.
A spokesman said: “An error in the data provided to the commission meant that voters in the Halifax College area would have remained in the single-member Fulford & Heslington ward.
“The new recommendations mean around 800 voters in the Halifax College area would be part of the Hull Road ward with the rest of the university campus, rather than in Fulford & Heslington.
“The amendment would deliver electoral equality for local voters so that each councillor in York represents a similar number of electors."
The commission has re-opened a public consultation, which will now run until March 31.
