Last chance to offer York International Women’s Week ideas

York Press: Last chance to offer York International Women’s Week ideas Last chance to offer York International Women’s Week ideas

FINAL entries are being accepted for activities to be held during York International Women’s Week.

Ideas for the annual event – which has included shows, concerts, talks, walks, sport events, dances, poetry, arts and crafts and a variety of workshops – are being accepted until tomorrow’s deadline.

It is hoping to build on the success of last year’s event, which saw more than 2,000 men, women and children get involved Already planned for this year’s festival, which runs from March 8 to 15, is a series of events of local and international interest at the Mansion House hosted by The Lord Mayor, Coun Julie Gunnell.

The York Settlement Players are in the midst of rehearsing Githa Sowerby’s The Stepmother, about a northern industrial family. And there will be a chance to Dance Your Inner Fire with Karen Michaelsen, who is also offering reflexology. Other activities will be facial treatments at the Healing Clinic, life coaching with Jo Holloway, and a soul drumming workshop being organised by Lesley Eastman.

what on earth have facial treatments got to do with a women's week? International Women's Day originated from striking women's workers in russia trying to better society - how about highlighting women fighting zero hour contracts in retail, the bedroom tax or council tax cuts, or women and girls education around the world, contemporary issues instead of sanitised irrelevant fluff.

We'll said poptree.

Of course it was originally International Working Women's Day, as initiated by our Clara.

Interestingly, I believe the demonstration called by Yorkshire & Humberside TUC against the LibDem conference in York on the day itself (March 8th) will have women to the fore, including a panel if speakers predominantly comprised of women involved in exactly the sort of fight poptree mentions.

What a hilarious farrago of loony lefty claptrap. It really should be televised as it’s funnier than anything else on the tele.
