A BOYFRIEND who bit his partner of five years and beat her up in public has been jailed for nine months.

Matt Harding, prosecuting, said Wayne Alan Jackson lost his temper when his partner came home from working as a cleaner, threw a bowl of hot soup at her and hit her with a garden chair on May 8.

Then he bit her on the arm and hit her. She suffered bruises and other injuries.

A few days later she fled into the street barefoot after he woke her by pulling her hair, banged her face into a cupboard and subjected her to verbal abuse and demands for money he claimed she owed him.

He followed her into the street, punched her to the ground and struck her back-handed across the face as she tried to get up. She suffered minor injuries.

He had two previous convictions for hitting other women.

The Recorder of York, Judge Stephen Ashurst, told Jackson: “You cannot escape the consequences of this extremely unpleasant and sustained violence against your partner.”

Although the injuries were not serious, he said: “There is the impact on a young woman of being assaulted by her partner in her own home.”

He jailed Jackson, 24, of Foxwood Lane, Acomb, for nine months and made a restraining order, banning him from contacting the victim by any means indefinitely.

Jackson pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and assault.

Taryn Turner, for Jackson, told York Crown Court the relationship was at an end. Jackson was “thoroughly ashamed” of his actions.

The relationship had had its problems, but he had overreacted.

He cared for members of his family and helped with the day-to-day care of his grandmother.

Jackson had planned to start a course to improve his reading, writing and arithmetic skills on the day of the court case and had intermittent part-time work for Nestlé.
