City of York Council looks to introduce Wi-Fi internet access on Park&Ride bus services

York Press: Council looks to introduce Wi-Fi internet access on bus services Council looks to introduce Wi-Fi internet access on bus services

MOVES to introduce Wi-Fi internet on buses in York have begun.

City of York Council hopes to introduce wireless internet access on Park&Ride services in the city, to help people using smart-phones, laptops or tablets.

It has now begun a procurement process and will announce full details later.

The council set up free wireless internet in the city-centre in 2011 through its Digital York project, saying the move would help local people, businesses and visitors.

Maybe all the commentators above live on Benefits Street and just use the Internet for moaning about stuff on Twitter. I use the Internet for work and if I can get another 20 minutes done on the bus then that's 20 minutes I don't have to work in the office or at home. It's also an incentive to use the bus and ditch the car.

park and ride is set up for people living outside york. a lot of poeple would have to drive 20 mins to the edge of the city to catch the bus in the first place. its a huge waste of money and once again spent trying to look flash to tourists.

The council should spend the community charge on core services first.
These have priority. Pipe dreams like this should be shelved until there is 'spare' money. Ideas like these appear to be personal projects to put on a C.V.
I am a believer in 'independant councillors and MPs. They don't have to adhere to a 'gang culture' of undermining the opposition. Why does one party feel the need to squander revenue and then claim there is a lack of funds for essential service. And most of all, expect mature adults to believe the propaganda.

Indeed... if only train companies would provide free wi-fi to everybody on board too, and not just to those in First Class (take heed Arriva Cross Country, for example). On the East Midlands Trains there is one part of Standard Class where you get free wi-fi though.
