MORE than 200 new homes could be built on farmland near Pocklington.

The proposed development at a 7.88-hectare site to the west of The Balk has been included as a potential homes scheme in East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Local Plan development blueprint.

It has been drawn up by Linden Homes North and J G Hatcliffe and Partners, with the authority likely to decide in April whether it can go ahead.

Nearby land, known as The Groves, is already being developed into 99 houses. The latest application is for 222 as well as a roundabout from The Balk, play areas and public open space.

The developers said the scheme would help meet local demand for housing and support the council’s target of building 1,400 new homes a year.

If approved, some of the properties would be bungalows and most would be two or three-bedroom homes, with a quarter of the housing being affordable.

A statement sent to the council by planning agents DPP One Ltd said the authority did not currently have a five-year supply of housing land, and said: “The development is sustainable and will help address the identified shortfall of housing in the area.”
