Yorkshire Marathon organisers open pre-sale register
IT was a sporting triumph for York – more than 6,000 runners pounding the streets as the city hosted its first-ever marathon last October.
But many were left disappointed, unable to take part in the Yorkshire Plusnet Marathon after places sold out in just three days.
Now organisers of this year’s marathon are giving would-be runners an extra chance to secure a place with a priority pre-sale tomorrow.
“Once the advance register closes, those on the list will receive an email giving them access to the pre-sale at 9am on Friday,” she said.
“The places will be sold on a first-come first-served basis once the sale opens. General entries will then go on sale on Monday, January 6.”
Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon event lead Lisa Ashcroft said: “We know lots of people were disappointed at not being able to get a place this year.
“We increased capacity as much as we were able to but unfortunately we could still not satisfy demand.
“I’d encourage people to register as soon as possible for the priority pre-sale to allow them the best possible chance of securing a place in 2014’s marathon.”
This year’s marathon takes place on Sunday, October 12 and, again, starts at the University of York.
Runners will have a chance to run close to the medieval city walls and in the shadow of York Minster before taking in some of the Vale of York countryside and then returning for a grand finish back at the university.
