Extra parking spaces for disabled in York's car parks

York Press: Extra parking spaces for disabled in York's car parks Extra parking spaces for disabled in York's car parks

CITY of York Council is investing £1,500 to make more disabled spaces available in the city’s car parks.

Work has now begun on expanding the number of parking spaces which are set aside for blue badge holders in the city centre.

There will be more disabled spaces at the Castle car park, Bootham Row car park, Monk Bar car park and Piccadilly car park – where they are set aside for the shopmobility scheme.

The council is also encouraging people to come forward with suggestions for more places to add disabled spaces in council car parks by emailing highway.regulation@york.gov.uk

I hope the spaces are used by genuine badge holders and not relatives or friends of badge holders as often seen in York and other cities .This us something that has annoyed many people over the years with others using these permits pretending to be transporting the badge holders who are always in a shop or town and then being aggressive to wardens who challenge them as I gave seen on a few occasions.

There you go Mike Usherwood, in your letter griping about extra cycle racks in town and in answer to your question "What are the council going to do for those who don't have a choice?" that is what they are doing.

Will you be writing in to thank them and apologise?

How many of these spaces are actually used?

I usually see them clogging up St Andrewgate, despite it being Access Only

Extra parking places at a time when Lendal Bridge is close on a "trial", soon to be made permanent.
The council's logic devise logic, yet again.

Not exactly a large amount of money is it? Slow news day and why are we not told the number of spaces - why the £1500? I have no idea whether that is one new space, or six, or sixty?

Press now for low journalistic standards.
