RESIDENTS in the Hambleton district are being urged to collect food and household items to distribute to struggling communities this Christmas.
The Hambleton Foodshare project, which supplies parcels to people with temporary financial problems and is run by Hambleton District Council, has given out 457 emergency packages since its Northallerton store opened eight months ago.
Collection boxes at the Civic Centre in Northallerton will be accepting donations until the end of December 11, and provisions such as cereal, coffee, tea, jam, pasta sauce, instant and tinned meals, soup and rice are all needed, alongside toilet rolls, deodorant, shower gel, shampoo and Christmas treats such as mince pies, chocolates and sweets.
Foodshare is open every Monday between 4pm and 7pm at the Zion URC Church in Northallerton and customers must present a voucher supplied by one of several agencies to claim a three-day food parcel.
