Isn't it easier to say "All the usual places"?

Why is there a need to advertise, because if you stay within the limit you're fine and if you don't then you get fined and who's fault is that - none other than yourself.

Maybe / maybe not, but I did win the "provoke others into making equally banal comments round"

By advertising their locations the police are presumably trying to encourage people to keep their speed within the legal limit, rather than just trying to make money from fines. They claim that the purpose of the cameras is road safety and not to raise revenue, and so well done to them for making their locations known to the public.

Makes me laugh, written down the side of the van " Safety Camera Van"
No its not, its a "lets make loads of money catching speeding motorist van" It will not stop people speeding they will just be more aware of the van in the future. If you see the van then once your out of view of it you can then go back to driving what ever speed you like, knowing that their is only the one van covering the area.

So why don't they put another van a mile down the road?

That way they catch even more criminals :)
