THE skills of young York mathematicians were put to the test at a city supermarket.
The youngsters competed in the semi-final of the National Young Mathematicians’ Award at Sainsbury’s Monks Cross store.
Schools taking part were Badger Hill, Huntington Primary, Archbishop of York’s CE, Ralph Butterfield and Park Grove.
The competition, now in its fourth year, aims to inspire children to enjoy maths with primary schools from all over the country entering a team of four into the competition – two boys and two girls solving a number of challenging problems.
The winners from the semi-finals have yet to be announced, with the highest scoring teams in the country getting the chance to compete in the grand final at the University of Cambridge in December.
