WIGGINTON’S famous Christmas lights have been switched on again.

For more than a decade, Twin Pike Way, or “Twinkle” Pike Way as it has become known, has attracted visitors from far and wide to see the hundreds of twinkling lights decorating the houses and gardens in the cul-de-sac.

This week Alan and Pamela Reed switched on their lights, covering their house and garden with festive illuminations.

Visitors to Twin Pike Way are being encouraged to make a donation if they enjoy the display, with all the money raised being shared between St Leonard’s Hospice and Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Over the years the festive lights have raised more than £50,000. Sue Miller, fundraising manager at St Leonard’s Hospice, said: “It’s hard not to smile when you first see the display followed by ‘wow’ when you realise how much work everyone has put in.

“The lights at Twin Pike Way are now one of the great Christmas attractions of York, and people come from miles around to see them.

“We are very grateful to all the residents for their continued support for the work of St Leonard’s; they are a shining example for everyone.”
