A MAN who was found dead in a stream in a North Yorkshire town has been named by police.

Darryl Craig, who was also known as Paul Darryl Duffy, 44, of Endcliff Crescent in Scarborough, was discovered by a woman walking her dog. She saw his body lying face-down in a stream that runs through Peasholm Glen into Peasholm Lake.

Officers are treating his death as suspicious and are conducting a murder investigation.

His body was partially clothed, wearing blue tracksuit bottoms and dark coloured trainers. He had injuries including severe bruising to his face and arms.

A post mortem examination has shown the cause of death was drowning.

Police are appealing for anyone who knew Mr Craig to contact them. The last known sighting of him was on Monday, December 11.

Officers also want to hear from anyone who was in the area around Peasholm between 2pm on Wednesday and 8.30am on Thursday. People can phone 01609 768111.

A police spokesman said a 32-year-old woman has been arrested and is on police bail. He said a 32-year-old local man was also arrested yesterday.
