FILMMAKERS from around the world have been descending on York as some of the city’s cultural landmarks are transformed into cinemas for a four-day festival.
The Aesthetica Short Film Festival got under way last night at City Screen as filmmakers from as far away as Japan and Los Angeles joined visitors from Film4, BFI and Raindance for a preview of screenings.
From today, art galleries across the city will open to screen short films as the festival works to pair heritage buildings and galleries with film.
A total of 15 venues in York will host workshops and screenings as well as programmes from India, Kuwait and Mexico.
Today, a screening of BAFTA shorts can be discovered in the halls of the Yorkshire Museum, while on Sunday, film collective Screen Bandita will use found footage in a live cinema production complete with a score from two gramophones found on site in the 14th century Bedern Hall.
