THORPE United Under-15s edged to a 3-2 win over visitors Hunslet in division one of the Garforth Junior Football League.

Thorpe had the better of the early stages and they eventually got their reward when Corey Littlefield netted with a cheeky back-heel from Richard Buckthorpe’s cross after good build-up play from Jordan Emery, James Arnold and Shaun Heselwood.

Buckthorpe then started a Thorpe breakaway before flicking the ball on to Littlefield, who ran at the retreating defence before crossing for Jamie Hardacre to round off the move with an excellent finish. The Thorpe defence began to come under pressure as the visitors mounted a series of attacks and Hunslet got their goal when Thorpe failed to clear a throw-in. Goalkeeper Alex Ward was given no chance of making the save.

Arnold got Thorpe off to the perfect start in the second half when he latched on to a Hardacre free-kick to score with a perfectly executed half-volley and make it 3-1.

Hunslet got back into the game when a well-struck corner was misjudged by the Thorpe defence and ’keeper Ward to find its way into the net.

Man of the match Ben Clowes played in Littlefield and he again ran at the retreating defence before unleashing a powerful shot that the Hunslet ’keeper did well to block. Hunslet hit the bar with a speculative effort, and they also went close with a late free-kick.
