AN elderly man was yesterday in stable condition in hospital after being injured in a three-vehicle crash which closed a road near York for hours.
The crash happened on the A166, near Murton, on Monday morning and resulted in the elderly man being airlifted to hospital and five other casualties being taken to hospital. An elderly couple were travelling towards York when their Ford Focus crashed with a Ford Galaxy.
The Focus then careered into the path of a Peugeot Partner, also travelling towards Stamford Bridge, crashing with it head-on.
The 84-year-old man driving the Focus was flown to Leeds General Infirmary.
Five others, including the 80-year-old female passenger of the Focus, were taken to York Hospital with non- life threatening injuries.
