THE baton officially passing responsibility for the Tour de France to Yorkshire has been handed over.

The Grand Depart baton was presented to Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, in Paris, where Britain’s Chris Froome won the competition, as Yorkshire prepares to host the Grand Depart next July.

Mr Verity said: “It’s been a long, exciting ride getting to this point and now the work really begins for us all.”
