THIS was the state of Parliament Street on Saturday evening after the shops had shut. I’ll let the photo do the talking.

• THE streets of central York are filthy. Witness oozing rubbish bins and horribly stained paving slabs.
Perhaps the council can suggest why this public health issue is being ignored.
Why is York’s abundant water supply not utilised in an efficient way to wash the streets? It is unacceptable that citizens should be subjected to this mess and madness to alienate visitors by creating such a bad impression.
No doubt budget cuts and current weather conditions will be blamed but clean streets must be a priority for a civilised administration.
York is a beautiful city with much to look up to but watch your step – it’s grotty at ground level.
Pauline Wilson, Hunters Way, York.
