ABOUT 150 properties were left without water supplies following York’s third burst water main in a week.
Yorkshire Water said the burst, which happened yesterday morning in Clarence Street, and previous ones in Wigginton Road and Haxby Road, were probably caused by the hot weather.
A spokesman said demand for water increased during heatwaves, and the company then had to increase pressure to meet the demand. The increased pressure then caused bursts at vulnerable points in the pipe.
The burst was fixed and supplies restored later in the day.
Workmen also went out to tackle a smaller burst in a pipe at the junction of Barbican Road and Heslington Road.
