PLANS have been submitted to build a 250-foot tall wind turbine at a former colliery near Selby, with hopes it could be publicly funded.

The plans, from developers the Energy Prospects Co-operative, would see the 77-metre turbine built at Riccall Business Park, six months after a temporary 50m meteorological mast at the same position had been constructed to test the level of wind available.

Residents in Osgodby, Selby, North Duffield, Wistow and Kelfield, and about 30 homes within a kilometre of the proposed turbine have been urged to have their say on the project at the selby.gov.uk website.

The developers want to give local people the opportunity to invest in the scheme, with the chance to benefit from the sales of electricity created by the turbine, which would be enough to power 385 local properties.
