IN reply to Pat Graves (Letters, July 11), I don’t think I missed your point. You questioned the authority of the York MP and councillor who offered to support CPP. You say: “They should have asked first.” Who were they supposed to ask? Should they have held a referendum to gain approval to speak on behalf of the people of York – they are elected representatives and as such have that right?
CPP (as well as the banks) were mis-selling at the time in question and indeed I was a victim of this practise. However, they have rightly been punished and brought into line and I hope the company will have learned from this experience and will rebuild its reputation and continue to be a major employer in the city.
Sorry for the mistake in gender, I took a guess and got it wrong. For the record, I am not, and have never been an employee of CPP, I am just a fair-minded citizen of York.
Teresa Rolls, Bishopthorpe, York.
