A YORK community was transformed into an all-day extravaganza of art at the weekend.

More than 50 artists from across the city performed and displayed their work at the Acomb Dance Arts and Music (ADAM) Festival, intended to encourage residents to get involved in the artistic world.

Saturday’s 11-hour celebration included musicians, dancers, theatre companies, street performers, magicians and stand-up comedians, with choirs singing in front of Acomb Library and a pop-up shop being based on Front Street. North Yorkshire Police officers also showcased the force’s Lifestyle project, aimed at getting young people to play an active role in community life during the school holidays.

Summer fun was also on the agenda at Dunnington Fayre, which drew the Saturday crowds for activities including a race-walking competition for children and adults, a dog agility show, a bird-of-prey display, a circus workshop, live music and discos. The event at Dunnington and Grimston Sports and Leisure Centre also included a comedy night on Friday and a “chill-out” afternoon for families yesterday.
