YORK archaeologist John Oxley was on hand to cut the turf on an archaeological dig ahead of a new extension being built at the city’s Quaker Meeting House in Friargate.

Members of the York branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A), staff and volunteers from the York Archaeological Trust (YAT) and members of York Quakers joined Mr Oxley at the site.

The groups are working together to carry out required archaeological work.

The dig will be open to visitors on Sunday, July 21 from 2pm to 4pm.
