YOUNGSTERS at primary schools across York have the chance to enter a competition to design a poster based on their favourite animal.

Pet supply and animal feed company Thompsons of York has launched a competition for primary school children to design a poster on the theme “Pet’s around the World”.

Schools or individuals are invited to draw, paint or make a poster that best represents Pets around the World and enter the competition which is open to all children aged four to ten-years-old.

All entries will be displayed at the Thompsons Country Store Pet Show at York Auction Centre on Saturday, July 27.

The winning design will be chosen by a panel of judges and one overall winner will be presented with a £50 WH Smiths voucher and invited along with their class or year group, to a tour of Thompsons feed mill at Murton.

This special factory visit will enable children to discover what goes into animal feed and how it is manufactured using specialist equipment, along with discovering how the business uses global links to service the local agricultural community.

The visit will enhance children’s understanding of British agriculture and raise awareness of food and animal feed production.

Andrew Richardson, Managing Director at Thompsons said: “As a local business this competition is a great way to engage with the community. The mill visit is an exciting opportunity for young people to explore the process of feed production, transportation and how what they eat is influenced by what we produce.”

Posters should be A4 and can be designed using any format including crayons, water colour, poster paint or collage.

Entries should be sent to Thompsons Country Store, Jubilee Mill, Murton, York YO19 5UT.

Entrants must put their full name, age, contact telephone number and school address on the rear of the poster.
