CELEBRATIONS will be in full swing at a York residential home today, to mark the hundredth birthday of one of its residents.
Henry Lamb used to run the G Lamb Paint and Varnish Shop in Colliergate, which was founded in 1844 by his grandfather. He later sold the shop and opened a DIY shop in Walmgate before retiring.
Care manager Hayley Collins said: “A few of the family are coming, about 20, we believe, for a buffet and drinks and tea with the rest of the residents, and I think the civic party are coming also.”
Mr Lamb has three daughters from his first marriage, Gillian, Carolyn and Sylvia, and a stepdaughter from his second marriage, Vivian, all of whom were expected to join in the celebrations today.
Hayley said she expected Mr Lamb to enjoy his day, possibly with a little tipple. She said: “He’s still very sparky, still very much with it. He’s got a good sense of humour and a great personality, and though he’s not a big drinker, he likes a nice glass of red wine.”
