THREE generations of the same York family are coming together to raise money for Parkinson’s UK and they have urged others to do the same.
Sylvia Flaherty, a grandmother from Strensall, will be taking part in Parkinson’s UK Beningbrough Hall Walk on Sunday at 10am along with her daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren.
Sylvia has been a fundraiser for various charities, but when her partner of 14 years, Peter Wardman, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s she turned her efforts to Parkinson’s UK.
Sylvia, who is now treasurer for the York Branch of Parkinson’s UK, said: “Parkinson’s has had a deep impact on all of our family, and Peter especially, who now finds it very difficult to walk any kind of distance. Parkinson’s has also affected his speech, which makes communication very difficult, something he finds incredibly frustrating.
“So many other people we meet have experienced the same loss of independence, so we need to raise as much money as possible for vital research work to help find a cure for Parkinson’s.”
Entry to the walk is £10 (£5 for under 12s).
