It is true, those new speed “cushions” are dreadful (Letters, June 20). No matter at what speed you approach them it’s a very uncomfortable experience. They are much worse than the normal humps.

Coun Andy D’Agorne says that they are mostly being introduced to replace existing custom-built humps and that they’re not being “rolled out all over the city”, but surely that means that they will eventually be all over the city?

He also says that they meet Department for Transport regulations and can be installed cheaply and quickly, which is exactly what the City of York Council officer said, while recognising at the same time that they do actually hurt and harm people.

We are not complaining about humps to slow down traffic, we are complaining about THOSE humps; the ones which roll you about no matter at what speed you approach them; the ones we’ve got to have because they’re cheaper; the ones that are actually harming people.

Someone needs to rethink. The amount of correspondence there’s been in this newspaper indicates that there’s something very wrong with this new design.
