THORPE United Under-14s clinched the runners-up spot in Garforth Junior Football League division one with a 5-2 win at Wakefield Jets.

Thorpe sealed second place in the league with a less than convincing win over a ten-man Wakefield side in their final league game of the campaign.

Goalkeeper Alex Ward started the move that led to the opening goal, sweeping up an attack before finding Jordan Todd.

He released Jamie Pickles and his lay-off was met by Corey Littlefield, who placed the ball beyond the ’keeper.

Substitute Domonik Stankiwicz then pounced on a weak kick and hooked the ball forward for Pickles and he got the better of the ’keeper to double Thorpe’s lead.

Moments later, Pickles was pushed over in the area and Thorpe ’keeper Ward buried the penalty.

On the stroke of half-time, Ward was beaten by a header from a Wakefield free-kick and the Jets also got the first goal of the second half from a penalty awarded for handball.

Full-back Ben Clowes, joint man of the match with Littlefield, got a fourth for Thorpe from a corner.

The Jets hit the bar before Sean Hymers rounded off the scoring after good play from Richard Buckthorpe.
