Plucky York woman Gemma Lumley is putting her best foot forward to raise money for a good cause – and undertake a gruelling challenge.

As part of a planned trip to Ecuador in September, Gemma will climb a series of volcanoes – some of them active – culminating in an ascent of Cotopaxi, which is 19,347ft high.

However, she still needs to raise £4,000 for the Save The Children Born To Care campaign and has her sights set on walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks. She will be supported by 25 friends and supporters from York who are keen to help her reach her target.

Gemma said: “The Born To Care campaign is a great charity which will spread the money raised between the anti-bullying campaign and for anti-poverty measures in the UK. The money will also be used for healthcare and support for children in places such as Syria.”

Gemma, who works in Mothercare at Clifton Moor, has already staged several fundraisers and is organising a school disco to be held next month.

She said: “Raising money is part of the challenge and it’s good to know it is helping vulnerable children around the world.”

This isn’t the first time Gemma has undertaken a demanding challenge – two years ago she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro.
