THE ridiculous decision by the council to close Lendal Bridge again slaps the residents of York in the face, disregarding their opinion.

The argument that it will benefit visitors seems at best optimistic. In fact, it will bring dangers to the public who are led to believe that the bridge has become a pedestrian area, only to find a bus or a taxi up their behind.

The argument that people need to use other forms of transport does not stack-up. Taking a bus into the city from a Park&Ride will cost £2.60 return; yet if a resident wants to do the journey in reverse it will cost £3.50 return – a local tax and surely discriminatory.

The costs being talked about seem incredulous to me: Lendal Bridge £170,000; iTravel £320,000.

What with all the wasted money spent on ill-fated Clifton cycle lane, removal of the waste bins and the bus stop fiasco in Piccadilly, when will this council stop wasting our money?
