HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised in a bake-off challenge in aid of Age UK.
People were invited to bake cakes and take them to Age UK’s office in Walmgate, York, to be judged by food experts from tearoom specialist Bettys.
The creations were then sold at a fundraising event at St Crux in Pavement, helping to raise £760.
There was a great variety of cakes on offer and then sold, from Victoria sponges to biscuits.
All of the 20 entries were judged based on different competencies.
Chief Officer Sally Hutchinson said: “Our bake-off was very popular with entries from members of the public, volunteers and staff and was judged by Kevin Green and Joanne Baron, from Bettys.”
The winners in the Age UK York bake-off were: Jayne Hodgson, for both her Victoria sandwich and flapjacks/biscuits; Julie Godliman, in the sponge cake category; Janet Denton, decorated cupcakes.
