THE new York & District Junior Cricket Association season is almost up to the ton mark with 25 clubs fielding a total of 99 teams in four age groups this summer.

Newcomers to the Association are Gilberdyke and North Duffield.

Visitors Selby batted first at Tadcaster Magnets in zone ‘A’ of the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire under-15 championship and posted 90-3 in their allotted overs.

D Smith hit 50 not out with A Leetham 25 not out. In reply, Tadcaster Magnet’s Joe Barr made 49 not out and Ryan Lowe 29 as they passed their visitors’ total, ending on 91-3.

Acomb’s total of 61-6 seemed modest but they managed to keep the Bishopthorpe batsmen in check as they finished with 45-7.

Danny Cass top-scored with 31 as Sheriff Hutton Bridge posted 112-8 at Bolton Percy. The home team’s reply ended on 72-7 with Charlie Gregory taking 3-16.

Dunnington’s batsmen Tom Loten (51) and Jack Spofforth (53) retired not out as their team posted 143-0 against Dringhouses. In reply, Dringhouses managed a credible 103-4 with Sam Backhouse 41 not out and Matthew Chilton 28.

Clifton Alliance closed on 111-3 with Jake Atkinson 43 and Owen Marshall 29 not out at Osbaldwick in zone ‘B’.

The hosts could only make 58-8, C Wade top-scoring with 28.

Londesborough Park had Nathan Saltmer and Charlie Cartwright both retiring with scores of 50 as they closed on 159-2 against Stamford Bridge, who were dismissed for just 15 with Adam Harrison taking 3-0.

In the derby between Pocklington and visitors Yapham, the home side prevailed.

Batting first, Pocklington scored 131-8 as James Baker made 50 not out and Ben Potter hit 29.

Matthew Fairey, with 50, led the Yapham response but he lacked support and they faded to 91-8.

Matthew Watson (3-9) and Shaun Harland (53 not out) starred as Malton and Old Malton beat York ‘B’ by nine wickets.

There was a close game at Little Knavesmire between Ovington and Heworth. Heworth posted 134-4 thanks mainly to Will Huffer’s 52 not out.

In reply, Dom Kitching (45) and Matty Roberts (41 not out) guided the home team to a one-run win.

Acomb made a positive start to retaining the Quality Solicitors Burn & Company U11 division one title with a one-run win over last season’s rivals Sheriff Hutton Bridge in a very close game.

For Acomb, Jamie Thornton made 13 and Joe Hickey took 1-3, Sean Paine 1-5 and Chris Wood 1-17. In reply, Issac Giannini top-scored with 28 not out, while Will Guyer took 3-26 and Josh Mould 2-7. There was one wicket each for Alex Chalton and Oliver Pettigrew.

York opened their account with a 35-run win against Heworth ‘A’. Josh Wood scored 22 as York closed on 285-4. In Heworth’s reply of 250-7, Robert Draper made 19 and Oliver Batt 15 with M Robcross taking 3-4 and C Mosely 2-15.

Visitors Malton & Old Malton took the points when they visited Dunnington ‘A’.

Ryan Chapman with 14 not out and 2-8 was their star player supported by Josh Mann with 2-13. Dunnington’s cause was helped by Charlie Cresswell (19 not out) and Dominic Salter, who took 2-6.

An all-round team performance saw Heworth B overcome Dunnington ‘B’ by 25 runs at Elm Park Way in division two.

Lewis Meek (16 not out) and L Dunes (12 not out), plus hauls of 2-1 from Luke Rawson 2-1 and Robbie Thompson, 2-3 by Robert Draper and 2-10 from M Shawcross were Heworth’s pick. For Dunnington, Edward Millington took 3-2 in three overs.
